Designer: sophie mechalyinspiration: mia farrow in the film rosemary’s baby by roman polanskilocation: the courtyard of the lycée louis-le-grand. collection: pastel and pop colours, a joyous wardrobe for a young girl who dares to wear long and short ultra-feminine frilly dresses contrasted with more masculine outfits. abstract concepts mixed with a sartorial spirit, the volumes are ample for oversized suit jackets worn with flowy dresses. the textures are varied such as cotton, taffeta, muslin and silk.there are references to the 60’s and 70’s with bell-bottom trousers and ultra-short straight dresses, worn with coloured satin shoes and adorned with jewelled buckles. to note: all the vaporous and loose frilly evening dress and the cape dresses that float in the wind. interview with sophie mechaly:we went for a slightly magical side with new proportions, new proposals and types of dresses that i have rarely done before such as princess and prom dresses. the inspiration was rosemary’s baby. i am a fan of the work of roman polanski, especially of rosemary’s baby, mia farrow, the 60’s and 70’s, an era that is dear to me and that we find all the time with paul & joe.and all this evidently counterbalanced with the codes that are important to me, such as the men’s jackets. we have lots of jackets, cross-over jackets, simple, a bit oversized, trousers that are also wide at the bottom, a bit like bell-bottoms.so we have a renewed paul & joe because of these proposals of very short and very long dresses with lots of textures and fabrics such as taffeta, silk muslin, sparkly tulle, embroidery and fourteen metres of fabric, so this collection was very fun. we have rabbits, bears a bit like a bear that we find in a attic that is a bit scared but at the same time attached, it is never bad with paul & joe and so there’s a young girl, rosemary’s baby type of vibe. music from the show (for use only in context of the show, under cover of the right to information).
