Balmain: Men's show Autumn/Winter 2018/19 (with interview)

Artistic Director: Olivier Rousteing Collection: An army with squared shoulders and varnished trousers. The Balmain man likes things that shine, and votes for a knitted tunic, glittering tassels and pearl embroidery. Focus on the draped t-shirts, the rhinestone stripes, the strapped trousers. A luxury adventurer who doesn’t go unnoticed in a mink coat. A military spirit which has become the true signature silhouette of Balmain. A palette of colours dominated by black or military green. To note: the transparent PVC for protective parkas and jackets. Interview with Olivier Rousteing: It’s not military, it’s more about survivors, it’s more Madmax, what would be the last day of your life, there’s a slightly apocalyptic side, as if a meteorite fell for 12 minutes and you watched, it’s survival. A slightly glamorous armour, we can start with shiny plastic, like a type of sun protection or chainmail to defend yourself. It’s important for me, this sensation of staying in 2018, to connect, to always push my diversity, my youth, and so I’m very happy to have such an incredible team, a house that breathes youth and glamour all whilst respecting in these so called French codes which are important to me, the work of the ateliers, the labs, and quite simply luxury.
